AP USH LAD #1: Mayflower Compact & Fund. Orders of Connecticut

1. Concepts that are included in the Mayflower Compact include loyalty to the crown in England, the spreading of Christianity, and submission to the English crown.

2. The Mayflower Compact reflects an attachment to both the "Old" and "New" world. Attachment to the "Old" world is seen when the Compact states how those that sign will be loyal and submissive to the King in England, in addition to advancing the Christian faith. Attachment to the "New" world can be seen when they state that laws and ordinances to be for the "general Good of the Colony".

3. How did the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut differ from the Mayflower Compact? For one its a lot longer and detailed about legal procedure and rights of the people. It outlines the powers of governors and magistrates, and when and how they should be elected. The Mayflower Compact does not list these ordinances, and simply sets up an agreement between the settlers from the Mayflower to be loyal to the King and setup a colony in Virginia.

4. The compact was written so that there could be order between the Puritans and the non-seperatist colonists that had arrived. (info researched from http://www.history.com/topics/mayflower-compact)

5. It specifies the positions of government and the powers of those positions (example: the Secretary can't nominate a person into the Magistracy, it is up to the deputies of the towns to do that). It also portrays this fear by preventing one person from being in the same position of power for too long (elections twice a year).
